An official website of the Velocity Interoperability Network

History of the Status Service

The Status Service is the youngest of the shared services of the Velocity Interoperability Network. It was established on the day the shared services were brought into operation, so that a record of their availability exists from the first hour. The milestones below record its establishment and its first day, and the dates already fixed for the months ahead.

  1. Before September 2026

    No common record of availability

Before the shared services existed, each member organisation of the Network ran its own systems and kept whatever record of their availability it saw fit. There was no service on which every organisation depended, and so no need for a common record. The decision to establish six shared services created that need.

  2. August 2026

Checks defined and service levels agreed

In the weeks before launch the offices that would be responsible for the shared services agreed with the member organisations the service levels each would be measured against, and agreed with the Status Service the components into which each service would be divided and the check to be made of each. Checks were run in trial from 24 August without publication.

  3. 6 September 2026, 08:00

    Shared services brought into operation

The six shared services of the Network were made available to member organisations. Automated checks began at the same time, and every result since has been retained.

  4. 6 September 2026, 08:20

    First incident opened

The Identity Service office reported intermittent failures of sign-in, ten minutes before the next scheduled check. The Identity Service and the Developer Portal interfaces became intermittently unavailable following a configuration change applied during launch. The incident was given the reference INC-2026-001.

  5. 6 September 2026, 08:35

    Interruption ended

The configuration change was reverted and both responsible offices confirmed their services responding normally. No data was affected.

  6. 6 September 2026, 09:00

    All services confirmed Operational

The offices responsible for each service confirmed the status and the incident was closed.

  7. 6 September 2026

    Status Service established

This site was published with the current status of the six services and their twenty components, the record of incidents, the service levels, the first maintenance windows and the schedule of monthly reports.

  8. 13 September 2026

    First scheduled maintenance window

The rebuild of the Member Registry search index, reference MNT-2026-001, is the first announced maintenance window and the first occasion on which the status Maintenance will be shown.

  9. 1 October 2026

    First monthly availability report

The report for September 2026, covering the partial month from launch, is due for publication on the Availability reports page.

  10. January 2027

    First quarterly review

A review of the checks, the components monitored and the service levels in the light of the first three monthly reports. The date will be announced on the Availability reports page.
